Date Sold 1/17/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 26 3/4" x 39 3/4" [68 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) Mad Max 2 (released in the U.S. in 1982 as "The Road Warrior"), the 1981 George Miller Australian post-apocalyptic action thriller sequel ("Just one man can make a difference."; "In the future, cities will become deserts, roads will become battlefields and the hope of mankind will appear as a stranger."; "When all that's left is one last chance, pray that he's still out there ...somewhere!"; "Mad Max meets the challenge!"; "Written by Terry Hayes, George Miller with Brian Hannant"; "Music conducted and composed by Brian May"; in the first Mad Max, it is supposedly set in the mid 1980s, right after an apocalyptic war; this movie is supposedly set just a few years after that, and yet the entire world has massively broken down; even more confusing, in a later entry in the series, it is said that the apocalyptic war took place between the first and second film, not before the first; however, if you're looking for realism and a coherent timeline, you're probably not a big fan of this series!) starring Mel Gibson (in the title role as Mad Max Rockatansky), Bruce Spence (as The Gyro Captain), Michael Preston (as Pappagallo), Max Phipps (as The Toadie), Vernon Wells (as Wez), Kjell Nilsson (as The Humungus), Emil Minty (as The Feral Kid), and Virginia Hey. Note that this movie was first released in Australia as a sequel to Mad Max, and was titled Mad Max 2. The movie was a giant hit and distributors wanted to release it in the U.S., but since the first movie had only had a very limited release in the U.S., they re-titled it so as to not confuse audiences (but they printed a limited number of international "Mad Max 2" one-sheets in the U.S., which are far more rare than the "The Road Warrior" U.S. one-sheets). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that when this movie was first released in Australia, the unknown poster designer did not bother to double check his information, and he mistakenly put Humungus' name under the image of Wez, and Wez's name under the image of Humungus! Someone must have quickly caught it, because the posters were then correctly printed with the right names under the right images. But somehow, this poster made it into circulation, and it is only the second example of this poster with the incorrect credits that we have ever auctioned (and we have auctioned 11 examples with the correct names)! Also note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Australian movie, which measures 26 3/4" x 39 3/4" [68 x 101 cm] Condition: good to very good. The poster has light fold and border wear with light creases scattered throughout. It has spotty slight discoloration on back of the two sections at lower right (on the parts of the poster that were on the outside when it was fully folded) and some of that can be seen in some of the lighter-colored areas on the poster (see our image). This is the kind of poster that responds really well to restoration. It is likely that much or most of the slight discoloration can be removed chemically, and after linenbacking the very rare poster will display well! Learn More about condition grades
