An Autographed 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] REPRODUCTION Photo (Learn More) Mae West (born Mary Jane West) was a major star in the early and mid 1930s, as famous for her racy comments and raw sexuality as for her actual acting achievements. She was the toast of Broadway during the late 1920s, because for ten years, she had starred in a series of very sexy plays, including "Sex" in 1926, for which she was prosecuted on morals charges in 1927! In 1928, she starred in "Diamond Lil" (which later became the 1933 movie "She Done Him Wrong"). But due to censorship difficulties, she made very few movies, and those were greatly toned down versions of her stage successes. Some of her movies include: Night After Night, She Done Him Wrong, I'm No Angel, Belle of the Nineties, Goin' to Town, Klondike Annie, Go West Young Man, Every Day's a Holiday, My Little Chickadee, The Heat's On, Myra Breckinridge, and Sextette! She passed away in 1980 at the age of 87. Important Added Info: Note that this REPRODUCTION photo has been personally autographed (signed) by Mae West! Note that this autographed item was consigned to us by a man who, in the 1970s, was a teacher who taught a film class, and he also part-time ran the local movie theater. Starting in the late 1970s through the late 1980s, he wrote to famous celebrities, and enclosed an 8x10 still or repro (or sometimes another item) from his collection, and he wrote a literate personalized letter, talking about his work as a film teacher, and discussing his favorite movie by that star. In the case of this signed repro, he received it from the star in reply to a letter he wrote to that star, and it was acquired between the late 1970s and late 1980s. This is of course excellent, because back at that time celebrities were not selling their signatures nearly as much, and many of the stars were pretty forgotten and were happy to get letters from people like our consignor! He of course does not have any "Certificates of Authenticity", but he only kept ones he felt were surely authentic, and those are the ones we are auctioning. However, bidders can certainly compare the signatures to known examples on the internet to judge for themselves. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
