An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (25 1/2" x 39") (Learn More) Rene Clair's And Then There Were None, the 1945 Rene Clair crime murder mystery thriller ("From the story by Agatha Christie", where ten people are invited to a desert island, and one by one, they are killed) starring Barry Fitzgerald, Walter Huston, Louis Hayward, Roland Young, June Duprez, Sir C. Aubrey Smith, Mischa Auer, Judith Anderson, Richard Haydn, Queenie Leonard, and Harry Thurston. Note that this book was originally published in 1939 as "Ten Little Niggers", taken from the nursery rhyme that had been written many years before. That title was already offensive in the U.S., and the title was changed to "And Then There Were None" for the U.S. publication, and for the 1945 film version that followed (that is the final line of the nursery rhyme). In England, the book title was later changed to "Ten Little Indians", and in 1965, an English remake was given that title, as were several other remakes. Ironically, the name "Ten Little Indians" is now itself "politically incorrect", so that name also is no longer used. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked, but not in the usual way (which is an alternate form of restoration that is similar to linenbacking, but involves backing the poster onto Japanese rice paper). THIS poster HAS been mounted onto Japanese rice paper, but it appears that it was done so in preparation to having the poster linenbacked, but that (for unknown reasons) the owner of this poster did not have the job finished, so the poster has solely been mounted on thin Japanese rice paper. There also has been no restoration done to the poster (it would have been done after the poster and paper were mounted on linen). Any talented restorer could certainly go ahead and linenback this poster (either using the current rice paper, or re-backing the poster onto different rice paper first), and after proper linenbacking and restoration to the poster's defects, it will look great! But because the poster is currently mounted onto a thin rice paper, it is fragile, and of course, will need to be sent rolled in a tube (but the poster is somewhat protected by the extra 1" border of rice paper on all four sides). Please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above carefully! Condition: fair. The poster was mounted on a thin Japanese rice paper . Prior to being paperbacked, the poster had all of its borders trimmed off, and there were tiny areas of paper loss scattered through the poster (including some in the credits and the images of the stars at top right), plus many tears in the top center of the poster, plus some small paper loss at the crossfolds and in parts of the foldlines. After it was mounted, someone performed restoration to some of the poster's many defects (but they did not do a very good job, and there were some defects they did nothing to, and the restoration and defects are noticeable, even from a distance). Some of the excess rice paper has been lost in the top right corner, but it is solely the excess paper, and not the poster itself.
