An Original Movie World Premiere Invitation (measures 8 1/2" x 11"; 5 pages) (Learn More) The Man With the Golden Arm, the classic 1956 Otto Preminger gambling drug addiction romantic love triangle crime thriller ("Unforgettable people, an 'untouchable' theme, an unusual motion picture!"; "From the novel by Nelson Algren"; about a poker dealer who struggles to break his addiction to heroin while trying to become a professional drummer; he also has a wife in a wheelchair because of something he did, and he is attracted to another woman) starring Frank Sinatra (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Eleanor Parker, Kim Novak, Arnold Stang, Darren McGavin, Robert Strauss, John Conte, Doro Merande, George E. Stone, George Matthews, Leonid Kinskey, Emile Meyer, Shorty Rogers, and Shelly Manne NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that not only is this world premiere invitation one of the largest we have ever seen (8 1/2" x 11"), but the cover of it is a heavy vellum stock, which has literally been sewn along the spine to the back cover! The front cover has the classic Saul Bass art designed for this movie without any credits or faces, just the art itself, and on the reverse is an unusual abstract color pattern (see our images). The invitation had thin paper covers that were on the front and back that had the words "Invitational World Premiere 'The Man With The Golden Arm' - Victoria Theatre, Thursday, December 15" printed on the front, and nothing printed on the back. We have never auctioned this program before. Note that this item, and several other rare Saul Bass items, were consigned to us by a very longtime Saul Bass collector who painstakingly tracked down these items over many years! This is a great opportunity to add rare unusual Saul Bass items to your collection. Condition: fair to good. The thin paper covers have separated at the spine and have light staining on both that caused the artwork heavy stock interior cover to also become lightly stained throughout, as is the interior page. Obviously, any restorer could likely greatly reduce the staining, but bear in mind these significant defects before bidding on this extremely rare world premiere invitation.
