A 1951 Realart Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card #8 (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. many creases, pinholes, smudges, light stains, and small tears around the edges of the card; the back of the card has brown tape across the entire top border and across the entire bottom border and clear tape on the back of all the small tears of the left and right borders (there is one piece of clear tape that is 2" long in the upper left border that was folded over to the front of the left blank border); there is a similar piece of tape folded over to the front of the bottom of the right blank border; there was tape in all four corners and in the center of the top blank border; the pieces in the top left, top right, and bottom right corners were removed, and there is surface paper loss in those areas; the tape in the lower left corner and in the center of the top blank border is long gone, but there are tape stains in those places. Obviously, this card has lots and lots of border defects! But the actual image has next-to-no defects, except for a smudge over the center of the top of the title and some faint creases throughout the image that are not at all distracting. I would think many collectors could happily display this card as is, but of course a talented restorer could make the card look great without putting paint in the image area!
