An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (released in Mexico as "The Body Snatchers"), the classic 1956 Don Siegel science fiction (sci-fi) horror alien invasion romantic thriller ("Walter Wanger creates the ultimate in science-fiction!"; "They come from another world!"; "Incredible! Invisible! Insatiable!"; "Something is happening! Send your men of science quick! The panic stricken cry went over the phone to Washington D. C. until the lines went dead!......."; "Colliers's Magazine called it 'The nightmare that threatens the world!'"; "Based on the Collier's Magazine Serial by Jack Finney"; about aliens invading Earth by replacing people with alien counterparts that grow as pods, and then take over the person's identity when the person falls asleep; one by one, a town is taken over, and the few remaining unaffected people try to stop them and get the word out, but they are stopped at every turn; most people see this as a thinly veiled parable of the activities of the House Un-American Activities Committee, which found "Communists" behind every door in Hollywood!; others protest that it greatly borrowed the plot of Robert A. Heinlein's "The Puppet Masters", which had been written five years before; ironically, when The Puppet Masters finally came to the screen in 1994, it was criticized for being a rip-off of this movie!) starring Kevin McCarthy, Dana Wynter ("Sensational star discovery of 'The View From Pompey's Head' ... Dana Wynter in the year's most startling role!"), Larry Gates, King Donovan, Carolyn Jones, Jean Willes, and Ralph Dumke NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is the very rare "style B" spotlight dance poster for this sci-fi classic. All of the other posters for this movie have a similar design, and this is the only poster created for this movie with a different image! Also note that this poster has never been machine folded! Most half-sheet posters were folded once horizontally and once vertically right off of the printing press. It is very difficult to find an unfolded copy of most half-sheets, especially from before 1970! Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. There were creases, smudges, and tears around the edges of the poster. There was a 4" semi-circular tear in the top left corner of the image that extends into the sky background. There was a 3" tear in the right of the upper border that extends into the left edge of the yellow tagline box. The other tears were all smaller in length, and are visible on our super-sized scan. There were a few scuffs in the image area. The most noticeable ones are right near the center of the poster at the bottom of the "DY" of "BODY" and in the area below that. There is a smudge line just above Wynter's head. This poster was purchased over 40 years ago. The person who owned it placed approximately 11 pieces of tape on the back of the borders, repairing the tears that are described above. For unknown reasons, he used three different kinds of tape, and some of them have bled through to the front more than others, but all have some slight bleed through. Most of the bleed through is in the blank borders, but some is within the edges of the image (again you can see this in our super-sized image). Overall, the poster has a bunch of minor defects, but fewer in the central image area, and I think it is a great plus that the poster is completely unfolded, and that it is unrestored (except for the amateur tape repair that was done decades ago). Given that most of the defects are in the borders, I would think many collectors could display this poster just as it is, and of course, any talented restorer could certainly back the poster and repair the above defects, after which the poster would look fantastic!
