An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Unfolded English Double Crown Movie Poster (DC; measures 20" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Some Like It Hot, the classic 1959 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic musical cross-dressing drag crime comedy ("Hot!!!"; about two out of work musicians who happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, and they need to leave town in a hurry, but the only jobs they can get is with an all-girl band, and they dress in drag, and one of the band members is Marilyn Monroe!) starring Marilyn Monroe ("and her bosom companions"), Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), George Raft, Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown (the great star of 1920s and 1930s slapstick comedy, who practically steals this movie with a wonderful comic performance and an unforgettable final line!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is undated, but we are certain it is not from the first release of this movie in the U.K. and it is likely from a re-release sometime in the 1960s.
UPDATED 11/25/2020: Note that this auction had incomplete information. While the Important Added Info section said that we believed it to be a re-release, other areas did not mention this (they do now). However, a collector tells us that he believes that this poster is likely from the first release of the movie because it has the same art and reviews as the first release British Quad poster. We cannot be certain so we are leaving it as a 1960s re-release, but please keep this uncertainty in mind when bidding. Condition: good to very good. The poster has some light and/or fine creases scattered throughout from being tightly rolled at one time. It has a tear at center left that has been repaired with tape from the back and there are a few smudges around the edges. Despite the defects the poster does display well from a reasonable viewing distance, but see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this poster prior to placing a bid.
