An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Infernal Machine, the 1933 Marcel Varnel ocean liner cruise ship romantic love triangle melodrama ("Novel by Carl Sloboda"; a really wacky story of a man on an ocean liner who meets an engaged woman and falls for her, but sees no way to be with her; but then when the ship's crew notice that there is a bomb planted on board that will go off at midnight, the man confesses to being the bomber, and promises to diffuse the bomb, but only if he is allowed to be alone with the bomb and the engaged woman, and only from 11:10 to midnight right before it goes off, none of which makes the slightest bit of sense at all!) starring Chester Morris, Genevieve Tobin, Victor Jory, Elizabeth Patterson, James Bell, Edward Van Sloan, and Josephine Whittell NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a one-sheet (20 years ago), three lobby cards, and a Swedish poster from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this insert! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had additional folds, including one at a diagonal that went through the girl's chin, with tiny creases and scuffs on the folds, with some fine surface paper loss. There were also some scuffs scattered throughout the image, with some tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
