The Wizard of Oz, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming family magical fantasy adventure musical ("MGM's miracle musical show of shows!"; "It's Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Technicolor triumph!"; "Magnificent in its brilliant Technicolor splendor!"; "At Last It's Here Biggest Sensation Since "Snow White"!"; "The mighty miracle show that is the talk of America!"; "Amazing sights to see! The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age.

Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Meinhardt Raabe (in 1976), Margaret Hamilton (in 1981), AND Jerry Maren (in 2000)! Our consignor purchased this wonderful pressbook in 1970, and it is complete, with all FOUR interior sections (there have been other pressbooks found missing one or more sections, which is natural). IT ALSO HAS THE GREAT TIPPED IN FULL-COLOR HERALD (see our image of the inside front cover of the folder to see one side of the herald). This pressbook was consigned to us in 2014 by legendary horror/sci-fi collector Wes Shank. Mr. Shank had perhaps the second best such collection after Forrest J. Ackerman, and like Mr. Ackerman he slowly sold and traded his collection over many years. As for the autographs in this pressbook, Mr. Shank over the years met the three above people in person and had them autograph the front of the ad section (see our image). Two of the interior sections are printed on a newsprint-like paper, which ages like old newspapers, and the other sections and the cover are printed on a much better quality paper stock. In the early 1990s, Mr. Shank took the pressbook to a museum restorer in Pennsylvania. They replaced the staples, which were rusting, with thread. They de-acidified the entire pressbook, and reinforced the edges of the newspaper print sections, so that they could be handled. This expensive conservation guarantees that the new owner of this pressbook will be able to enjoy it for decades to come, without any fear of it aging further (we will enclose a pair of white cotton museum gloves, so that the new owner can look at the pressbook in great detail and not even leave a fingerprint!)! In 2014, we auctioned this pressbook and it sold for $8,265. The person who purchased this pressbook in that auction had now reconsigned it to us, so someone else will now get to own this wonderful pressbook, which oroginally was from the collection of Wes Shank! Finally note that this is surely the "Holy Grail" of pressbooks! Not only is it one of the most loved movies of all time, but MGM created this very large pressbook, contained in a wonderful folder (it has a full-color image on the cover which does not appear on any posters, and it has the main posters in full-color on the back cover), and the interior of the folder has lots more posters (and the tipped in herald), and then there are the FOUR interior sections listed above! Maybe MGM was not sure of the movie's reception, so they wanted to "over-sell" it to theaters (which also might account for them writing "BIGGEST SENSATION Since 'SNOW WHITE'!" on the front cover (I don't think I have EVER seen a studio promote a movie from another studio before!).

Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut, and it has the tipped in herald and the four interior sections, which is VERY unusual. As note above, the consignor had a museum restorer de-acidify the entire pressbook and also replaced the staples (see above). See our many images!
