An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Sergeant York, the classic 1941 Howard Hawks (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) World War I (WWI) conscientious objector biography ("Based upon the diary of Sergeant York"; "Original Screen Play by Abem Finkel & Harry Chandlee and Howard Koch & John Huston"; the true-life story of the most decorated soldier in World War I who was originally a conscientious objector; the movie was not made for 23 years after the fact because the real-life Sergeant York did not want to be glorified for killing, but he allowed the movie to be made as the U.S. entered World War II; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Gary Cooper (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Sgt. Alvin C. York), Walter Brennan (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Joan Leslie, George Tobias, Stanley Ridges, Margaret Wycherly (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), and Joseph W. Girard. Note that the real life Alvin York, who had not wanted to profit in any way from his fame, because he was a conscientious objector, had stayed out of the limelight from 1918 until 1941. But then, when Hollywood made this story of his life, he also agreed to both visit the set for publicity photos and also appeared at the premiere! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good to fine. The top 2" and the left and right 2" of the poster were folded over at one time (no doubt to put on a frame), but those foldlines are not very noticeable at all. There are staple holes across that extra top foldline and a few others scattered around the edges of the image. There is separation and tiny paper loss at the middle and bottom crossfolds. There are some diagonal creases in the bottom 1/4 of the poster to the left and right of the vertical foldline. There is small paper loss in the left edge of the middle foldline, in the blank border. There is very faint water staining in the vertical foldline between the middle crossfold and the bottom crossfold. There are some creases along the foldlines and around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster is in pretty nice condition, and a simple linenbacking would make the above minor defects basically vanish, and the poster would look great, and there would be little restoration anywhere on the poster!
