He was in one film in 1924 but didn't star again until he appeared in five films in 1937. Oddly enough, he was billed as "introducing Robert Newton" for the 1941 film Major Barbara, even though he had already worked on many films by that time. He acted steadily from the '30s to the '50s but had a drinking problem which, at times, made him unemployable and eventually lead to his passing in 1956 at the age of 50. He is often best remembered for his portrayal of pirates such as Long John Silver is Disney's 1950 film "Treasure Island". He is credited with popularizing the stereotypical "pirate talk" and is the "patron saint" of the annual International Talk Like A Pirate Day on September 19th. Some of his movies include: Around the World in Eight Days, Blackbeard the Pirate and Jamaica Inn Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
