An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Shanghai Cobra, the 1945 Phil Karlson Charlie Chan Asian China detective mystery crime thriller ("Charlie Chan in 'The Shanghai Cobra'"; "Original Story by George Callahan") starring Sidney Toler (as Charlie Chan), Mantan Moreland, Benson Fong (as Tommy, Number Three Son), James Cardwell, and Joan Barclay (in her last credited role). Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster has creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges and some of the tears at left have been repaired with tape from the back and amateur restoration was performed on the front (see our image). There is staining at left, and there is slight discoloration with deterioration and paper loss along the lower edge. There is a tear at lower center and one to the left of Moreland and both are repaired with tape from the back. The poster is mostly "all there" and after proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
