An Original Vintage Unfolded East German Stage Play Poster (measures 22 3/4" x 32" [58 x 81 cm]) (Learn More)

Amphitryon, the 1984 East German poster promoting the stage play opera revival production (based on the comedy by von Rainer Kunad, and the libretto by Ingo Zimmermann) held at the State Theater in East Berlin, East Germany. Note that this poster features wild and sexy art by Henning. Amphi in Greek means double/both sides. Depicted here as a dialogue between the colors yellow, red and black of the flags of both East and West Germany. Books have been written about the often subtle references in East German theater (both stage and poster promotion), to dissident views expressed in the plays which could be, like in this case, two thousand years old but critically re-applied to East German conditions.
