An Original Vintage Linenbacked Special Movie Poster (measures 24" x 33 1/2" [61 x 85 cm]) (Learn More)

Bullitt, the classic 1968 Peter Yates San Francisco California crime car chase action thriller ("The word 'cop' isn't written all over him - something more puzzling is."; "There are bad cops and there are good cops - and then there's Bullitt."; "Bullitt comes to this theatre soon. That ought to shake up the place pretty good. Not many freaky cops like Bullitt around. You look at the Italian shoes and the turtleneck and you have to wonder. You listen to the official beefs about 'personal misconduct,' 'disruptive influence,' you figure he's got to be up for trade. But when some rare Chicago blood starts spilling in San Francisco, they give Bullitt the mop. They weren't exactly doing him a favor. But they've done a great big one for you."; "Detective Lt. Frank Bullitt - some other kind of cop. Pity the guy he works for."; "Based on the novel 'Mute Witness' by Robert L. Pike"; about a detective who drives a 1968 Ford Mustang GT fastback while pursuing professional hitmen who murdered the wrong guy and let's not forget the really cool chase scenes!) starring Steve McQueen (in the title role "as Bullitt"), Robert Vaughn, Jacqueline Bisset, Don Gordon, Robert Duvall, Simon Oakland, and Norman Fell

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this special poster, with a great different image of McQueen standing by a shadowy image of himself that we have never seen on any other poster, and it has a great different tagline at the top that we don't recognize from anything else ("The word 'cop' isn't written all over him - something more puzzling is.")! The text in the lower left is the same as the text that is on one of the two styles of one-sheets, but that one-sheet has "Bullitt comes to this theatre soon. That ought to shake up the place pretty good." above the text, and this poster does not have that. Our best guess is that this poster predates the one-sheets for this movie, because of the completely different image and the different tagline that were not used during the regular campaign, but we are stumped as to why this poster measures 24" x 36". It was surely studio-created, but for what purpose? It was originally folded like a U.S. one-sheet and was blank on the back (we are certain of that), so it wouldn't have been some sort of brochure. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Please do not bid on this extremely rare and unusual poster unless you can accept the uncertainties about it.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had creases, scuffs, and tiny bits of surface paper loss on the folds. It was incorrectly mounted to the linen, and there are many creases across the top quarter of the poster and around the edges, with a lesser number scattered in the bottom three-quarters of the poster. If I owned this incredibly rare poster, I would immediately have it removed from the linen and properly re-backed, but of course, that will be the choice of the new owner of this poster.
