(Learn More) Network, the classic 1976 Sidney Lumet (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) television TV news black comedy ("Prepare yourself for a perfectly outrageous motion picture."; "Television will never be the same"; written by Paddy Chayefsky; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; it is amazing how well this movie has predicted the future of television!) starring Faye Dunaway (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), William Holden (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Peter Finch (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; both the nomination and the award were posthumous), Robert Duvall, Ned Beatty (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and Beatrice Straight (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; hers was the briefest performance, 5 minutes and 2 seconds, ever to win an Oscar) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this elaborate "double presskit" was sent to movie reviewer Ken Williams, and there is a letter from MGM that was sent to Mr. Williams, that tells him they are pleased he accepted their invitation to go to New York to see the screening of "Network", and to participate in the press conference with the director, screenwriter, and stars. It mentions that his first class round trip ticket was enclosed, which could be used on any airline (that ticket is no longer present, because Ken Williams used it!). MGM really went all out with this, because not only did they send a regular presskit, but they had so many supplements they wanted to include, that they put the extra ones in a special "MGM Editor's Portfolio", which has a different folder from that of the regular presskit. Note that this is one of an excellent collection of 25 presskits we were consigned from the collection of Ken Williams, who was a movie reviewer for the Hamilton Journal News in Ohio! Mr. Williams was often invited to movie premieres and he would reciprocate by getting the studios excellent coverage of their movies in his newspaper! Many of the presskits that he was sent had many more supplements than are commonly seen, and it is quite likely that he was sent some supplemental material that was ONLY sent to special reviewers, and not to movie theaters. This paragraph is on each of the 25 presskits from this collection we are currently auctioning, and each clearly describes what items are included in it, so you can quickly see if there are additional items in this presskit that were not available elsewhere. Many of these 25 presskits are from top movies, and this is a rare opportunity to obtain a "movie reviewer's presskit" for those movies! Note that we have taken a picture of the cover of the presskit and eight of the stills (less than eight if the presskit has less than eight stills, of course). We have noted if the presskit contains any supplements, but we do not picture them. All of the presskits are sealed and ready to be sent, and we cannot answer any questions about the contents, especially about what any stills we may have not pictured show. REMEMBER TO LOOK AT THE TOP OF THIS AUCTION TO SEE HOW MANY STILLS ARE INCLUDED WITH THIS PRESSKIT, BECAUSE WE NEVER PICTURE MORE THAN EIGHT OF THEM (and we pretty much picked eight stills at random). Condition: very good. Many of the presskits we are auctioning this week were carefully stored away for many years, and the stills are in really excellent condition. Sometimes the folder that contains the stills has some minor wear on it, and you should be able to see that in our super-sized image. Learn More about condition grades
