The Virginian, the 1914 Cecil B. DeMille (his seventh movie!) silent romantic cowboy western ("Jesse L. Lasky proffers the favorite American actor Dustin Farnum in a magnificent picturization of the popular novel and famous play"; "5 Parts, 400 Scenes"; "A Graphic Kaleidoscope of the Golden West"; "A Living Fiction Monument to the West That Was"; "From the play of Kirk La Shelle and the book by Owen Wister") starring Dustin Farnum (in the title role as The Virginian), Jack W. Johnston, Sydney Deane, William Elmer (as Trampas), Winifred Kingston, and James Griswold. Note that this movie was remade three times, in 1923, 1929, and 1946 (the most famous version is the one from 1929, where Gary Cooper played the lead role).
