An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Advance One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, the classic 1982 Steven Spielberg (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) science fiction (sci-fi) alien family fantasy melodrama ("His Adventure on Earth"; "He is afraid. He is totally alone. He is 3,000,000 light years from home."; "Written by Melissa Mathison"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, Henry Thomas ("as Elliott"), Drew Barrymore (in her second movie role!), and Robert MacNaughton NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare advance one-sheet (note the "Coming This Summer to a Theatre Near You" at the bottom of the poster). Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not restored at all. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would surely benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). It appears the poster was possibly quite faded, for the coloring is substantially different than that of the other examples of this poster we have seen. It has many creases and scuffs throughout the image and some tears and tiny areas of paper loss on the foldlines. But the other examples of the poster have the title area colored in, and the title on this poster is pure white, and does not look like it was ever colored. So perhaps this is an alternate version, with different coloring, or perhaps it was some kind of test poster, where they only printed some of the colors. In any event, the poster had a lot of damage to it prior to restoration, and the person who backed it did a pretty good job considering the pre-restoration condition of the poster, but you can still clearly see signs of the defects, even from a distance, so please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above, and are willing to accept the poster's odd coloration and its defects and restoration.
