Date Sold 3/7/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 Original Vintage Unfolded World War I Posters (measure 20 1/2" x 27" [52 x 69 cm]) (Learn More) Plattsburg, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) Home Front poster ("Are you trained to do your share?"; "Are you trained to defend your country?"; "The Minute Men of to-day are going to Plattsburg") encouraging people to join volunteer pre-enlistment military training camps. The largest and best known camp was near Plattsburgh, New York. Note that the Plattsburgh in New York was named after Zephaniah Platt in 1785, and that over the years, it has often been misspelled as "Plattsburg", as it is in these posters (in fact, there is a Plattsburg, Missouri, that is named after the New York Plattsburgh, and that city's name was misspelled). If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S. Condition: fair to good. Both posters are in lesser condition. one has many creases and tears around the edges with smudges and scuff marks scattered in various areas, and the other has a huge tear at center, with several tears of varying lengths around the edges, paper loss at lower right and scuff marks throughout. Most of the tears are repaired with tape from the back. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of these two posters prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
