An Original Vintage Theatrical German Movie Lobby Card #9 (LC; measures 9 1/2" x 11 3/4" [24 x 30 cm]) (Learn More) Die Nibelungen: Siegfried (released in the U.S. in 1925 as "Die Nibelungen"), the 1924 Fritz Lang German silent sword-and-sorcery fantasy adventure melodrama (this was a re-telling of the story of the greatest of ancient German folk heroes, Siegfried; Lang had so much material that he split it into two movies, this one being the first, and the sequel being "Die Nibelungen: Kriemhilds Rache"; both movies were scripted by long-time Lang collaborator Thea von Harbou) starring Paul Richter (in the title role as King Siegfried of Xanten), Margarete Schon (as Princess Kriemhild of Burgund), Hans Adalbert Schlettow (as Hagen of Tronje), Bernhard Goetzke (as Volker of Alzey), Gertrud Arnold (as Queen Ute of Burgund), Hanna Ralph (as Queen Brunhild of Isenland), Theodor Loos (as King Gunther of Burgund), Erwin Biswanger (as Giselher of Burgund), Georg John (playing three roles, as Mime the Smith, Alberich the Dwarf King, and Blaodel) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that there are some mysteries surrounding this German lobby card, which is a "country of origin" lobby card for this German movie. It has a stamp on the back that reads "Decla-Bioscop A.G.". Decla was the most important German film studio starting in 1911, and in 1920, it merged with Bioscop to become "Decla-Bioscop", and in 1923, they were absorbed into UFA, but for a while, the movies that had been started under Decla-Bioscop were released as Decla-Bioscop movies, including Die Nibelungen, but afterwards, those movies were released as UFA movies, so this stamp on the back guarantees that this lobby card is from when the movie was first released. We auctioned German stills from this movie that had UFA on them, which would seem to indicate that they were made after this lobby card, which was when UFA was releasing this Decla-Bioscop made movie. There is also uncertainty as to whether this lobby card is from when the first part of this movie was released (as "Die Nibelungen: Siegfried") or when the second part was released (as "Die Nibelungen: Kriemhilds Rache"), because Bernhard Goetzke, who is pictured on this card, was in both parts. If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. There is a crease in the center of the bottom blank border. There are four tiny to small tears in the blank borders, with a few faint creases and scuffs around the edges (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
