An Original Vintage Linenbacked Political Campaign Poster (measures 20 3/4" x 27 3/4" [53 x 70 cm]) (Learn More)

Franklin D. Roosevelt (also known as FDR) was a American politician from the 1910s to 1945. A Democrat, he won a record four presidential elections and emerged as a central figure in world events during the mid-20th century. He is known for directing the United States government during most of the Great Depression and World War II, and as a dominant leader of his party, he built the New Deal Coalition, realigning American politics into the Fifth Party System and defining American liberalism throughout the middle third of the 20th century. He is often rated by scholars as one of the three greatest U.S. Presidents, along with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. He passed away in 1945 at the age of 63.
Artist: Mitchell Loeb
Important Added Info: What a wonderful poster this is! It was created after FDR had been in office 8 years, and it was comparing where the country stood in 1932 ("bread lines", "homeless", "banks closed"), with where the country stood in 1940 after the "New Deal" had been in place ("higher wages", "Low Rent Homes", "Social Security"), with wonderful art illustrating each of these concepts! We have never auctioned this poster before.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was folded horizontally and vertically, but the vertical fold runs down the left side of FDR's face (see our image). There are creases, smudges, and tears around the edges, with creases along the folds and some creases, smudges, and stains scattered in the bottom of the poster. Likely, soon after the poster was created, it was mounted onto a thin linen. If I owned this wonderful poster, I would surely have it removed from the thin linen and have it properly restored, after which it will display incredibly!
