Date Sold 8/7/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Jumbo Lobby Card (LC; measures 14" x 17" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) The Benson Murder Case, the 1930 Frank Tuttle detective mystery crime thriller ("The greatest of them all!"; based on the novel by S.S. Van Dine; in this entry in the Philo Vance detective series, the producers incorporated the stock market crash of 1929 into the plot, and the story focuses around a crooked stock broker who is murdered at a lodge, and all of the guests are suspects, because he has swindled many of them out of money, but Vance sorts things out!) starring William Powell (as Philo Vance), Natalie Moorhead, Eugene Pallette, Paul Lukas, William 'Stage' Boyd, and E.H. Calvert. Note that William Powell first played Philo Vance in 1929's "The Canary Murder Case" and after the character proved very popular, he followed it the next year with "The Greene Murder Case", after which Basil Rathbone took over the role that same year in "The Bishop Murder Case". After Powell played Vance again in "The Benson Murder Case" (which was also made in a Spanish language version with an entirely different case), he then played him one more time in "The Kennel Murder Case" in 1933, but the character also appeared in ten more movies between 1934 and 1947, with other actors in the lead roles. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a window card, four jumbo lobby cards (those were in the 1990s, and we don't know what scenes they showed), one lobby card, and several stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this jumbo lobby card! Condition: fair to good. The card has paper loss across the bottom, with some tears. It has some small tears and tiny paper loss in the other borders and some light rippling scattered throughout (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
