An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) In Old Kentucky, the 1935 George Marshall horse racing sports gambling family feud comedy ("Play by Charles T. Dazey"; about a horse trainer in the Old South who is caught between two feuding families; he tries to help one by training their horse to win the big race) starring Will Rogers (in his final movie role; he died in a plane crash three months before this film was released), Dorothy Wilson, Russell Hardie, Charles Sellon, Louise Henry, Alan Dinehart, and Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Joseph A. Maturo Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this poster, and the last one was 10 years ago! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had a diagonal tear in the top right that went through the "RS" and another diagonal tear below that heading down into the background area (both tears are around 8" in length). There was a diagonal tear in the lower right that extended into the chest of the man at right and into the sleeve of the man next to him. There was a similar tear in the lower left that just touched the top of the "I" of "IN" and extended into the jacket above it. There were some other tears around the edges of the poster and some extended into the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. A restorer, likely a museum restorer, paperbacked the poster onto a thin paper with no excess, and they performed restoration to the above tears, but they are still slightly noticeable, although not really distracting.
