An Original Vintage Autographed Book Page (measures 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Jessie Matthews was an English musical actress from the 1920s to the 1980s. Some of her movies include: The Hound of the Baskervilles, Forever and a Day, Waltzes from Vienna, and Evergreen. She was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 1970s, so she could have afterwards referred to herself as "Dame Jessie Matthews", but apparently she didn't do that. She passed away in 1981 at the age of 74. Important Added Info: Note that this book page has been personally autographed (signed) by Jessie Matthews! Our consignor was a good friend of Jim Bawden, who, for many years, was the main movie reviewer for the Toronto Daily Star newspaper. Mr. Bawden passed away recently and our consignor purchased these from his estate. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but given that we know that Mr. Bawden became person friends with many celebrities (and the inscription on this item is personalized to him), we are certain the signature on this photo is authentic (and the same is true of the other photos from this estate we were consigned). Also note that this page was removed from a book. There is printing on the reverse side of the page, but we did not photograph it (obviously because the autographed side is the main interest). But this page can be matted or framed for little money and makes a great inexpensive display! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
