If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster originated from the legendary "Carson Collection" assembled by Richard Allen between the late 1930s and the late 1980s. Mr. Allen was one of the very first movie poster collectors, starting in the mid 1930s, and in the 1970s and 1980s he worked to get an incredible collection of posters with wonderful art. He would seek out the finest examples of each poster and then have them paperbacked by museum restorers, using the finest conservation techniques. Portions of his collection were illustrated in the great coffee table book, "Reel Art". Bruce Hershenson auctioned much of his collection in the early 1990s in his auctions through Christie's in New York City. Almost all of those posters have not returned to the auction block! This is a rare example of one of the posters from the Carson Collection coming to auction (our consignor purchased it outside of auction in the 1990s), and we have never auctioned this poster before. Incidentally, Richard Allen is still alive and well, as is his wife, Barbara Carson Allen, for whom The Carson Collection was named! Also note that this one-sheet measures 27 1/2" x 41" [70 x 104 cm]. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some pinholes around the edges. It had minor wear on the folds. It had small paper loss in the top of the "E" of "VOLTAIRE" and in the top right of the "E" and top left of the "I" of "VOLTAIRE". Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was paperbacked by the finest museum restorers (see above). After it was backed, it acquired a few tiny tears in the blank borders. It will display wonderfully on any collector's wall, but it needs to be handled carefully. Learn More about condition grades
