An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 10" x 15" [25 x 38 cm]; 21 pages) (Learn More) Cecil B. DeMille's The King of Kings, the 1927 Cecil B. DeMille silent historical life-of-Christ religious Biblical epic melodrama ("Cecil B. DeMille's supreme dramatic spectacle King of Kings"; "The simple Christian story... portrayed with reverence, power and great beauty!"; "Story by Jeanie Macpherson") starring H.B. Warner (as Jesus Christ), Dorothy Cumming (as Mother Mary), Ernest Torrence (as Peter), Joseph Schildkraut (as Judas), Jim Mason (not to be confused with the English actor James Mason!; as Gestas the Unrepenting Thief), Victor Varconi (as Pontius Pilate), Majel Coleman (as Proculla, Pilate's wife), Jacqueline Logan (as Mary Magdalene), William Boyd, Lionel Belmore, May Robson, Rex Ingram, Noble Johnson, Jack Padjan, and Ayn Rand (the author of "The Fountainhead", in a bit part as an extra!). Note that there was a later version of this movie in 1961, but that was directed by Nicholas Ray and it starred Jeffrey Hunter as Jesus. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we don't know that this pressbook dates from 1927, because it is from when the movie went to second run theaters (this could have been in 1928 or even 1929, but it also could have been later in 1927). This shows just HOW popular this movie was, because even for this release of the movie to secondary theaters, Cecil B. DeMille still made an incredibly elaborate pressbook. It is more like a deluxe magazine printed on quality paper. It only has one poster page (and those, except for one of the 24-sheets, are text only), but the other pages have lots of great photographic images from the movie and of the theaters that premiered the movie. Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is printed on deluxe paper and is more like a magazine than a regular pressbook . There are some scuffs and smudges, but otherwise, it is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
