He was a huge success in crime movies in the early 1930s (almost always playing a gangster), and that unfortunately typecast him in those roles, but he continually fought against it, and he made several wonderful non-gangster movies as well. Some of his movies include: The Public Enemy, Yankee Doodle Dandy (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), White Heat, Ragtime, Angels With Dirty Faces (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), The Roaring Twenties, One, Two, Three, Love Me Or Leave Me (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film) and scores of others! AND Mae Clarke was an actress from the 1920s to the 1970s. She will forever be best remembered as the girl who James Cagney hit in the face with a grapefruit in "Public Enemy". Some of her other best roles were in Frankenstein, Lady Killer, Great Guy, and The Front Page Important Added Info: Note that this REPRODUCTION still has been personally autographed (signed) by BOTH James Cagney AND Mae Clarke! Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 8" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm]. Also note that many celebrities kept multiple 8" x 10" (or smaller) copies of good publicity images of themselves to sign for fans, and also many memorabilia shops sold such copy stills themselves. While they are not original stills, they are usually excellent clear copies, with a great shot of that celebrity in their heyday, which, when signed by the celebrity, makes for a wonderful framed picture on any fan's wall!
