An Original Vintage Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) the 1957 double-bill release of John Steinbeck's East of Eden, the classic 1955 Elia Kazan (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) World War I (WWI) era romantic love triangle family relationship melodrama ("John Steinbeck's 'East of Eden' is a story of explosive passions and Elia Kazan has made it into a picture of staggering power!"; "Sometimes you can't tell who's good and who's bad!..."; "Elia Kazan's explosive production of John Steinbeck's 'East of Eden'"; "The new hit- The biggest hit- From the Academy Award Director of 'On the Waterfront,' Elia Kazan!"; "Of what a girl did - what a boy did - of ecstasy and revenge..."; "Warner Bros. present it in an intimate new use of CinemaScope and Warnercolor"; adapted from the classic novel by John Steinbeck) starring Julie Harris, James Dean (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; "In his very first picture - A very special star!"), Raymond Massey, Burl Ives, Richard Davalos, Jo Van Fleet (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Lois Smith, and Timothy Carey. Note that there is an unusual element to this movie, which is that Elia Kazan had Warner Bros. buy the rights to this classic novel, and then he essentially junked around 90% of it, focusing on a small section of the book! AND Rebel Without a Cause, the classic 1955 Nicholas Ray teen melodrama ("The reception committee for the new kid on the block!"; "The overnight sensation of 'East of Eden' becomes the star of the year!"; "Warner Brothers put all the force of the screen into a challenging drama of today's juvenile violence!"; "Warner Bros'. challenging drama of today's dammit, juvenile violence!"; "...and they both come from 'good' families"; "Their families gave them everything -but a good example!"; "This is Jim Stark, teenager --from a 'good' family--"; "He was new on the block, the pretty girl belonged to the leader of the gang, and the leader of the gang called him 'chicken' to his face..."; "This is how a teen-war starts!"; "Jim Stark - a kid from a 'good' family - what makes him tick... Like a bomb?") starring James Dean ("The star sensation of 'East of Eden'!"), Natalie Wood (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Sal Mineo (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Jim Backus, Edward Platt, Dennis Hopper (in a bit part as one of the "goons"), Ann Doran, Corey Allen, William Hopper, Jack Grinnage, Frank Mazzola, and Ian Wolfe NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that after James Dean's untimely death, and his immediate rise to superstardom, Warner Bros. capitalized on his fame by quickly re-releasing both of his first two movies in 1957, with new posters for each. Interestingly, they did everything they could to avoid mentioning that he was no longer alive! We have only once before auctioned this pressbook, which is for both of those re-releases in one pressbook. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut and it was never folded. Learn More about condition grades
