Date Sold 10/27/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Howard Hawks' The Thing From Another World!, the classic 1951 Christian Nyby science fiction (sci-fi) monster horror thriller ("The Thing from another world!"; "How did it get here?"; "Natural or Supernatural?"; "Howard Hawks' Astounding Movie"; "Look out... it's The Thing from another world!"; produced by Howard Hawks; based on the story by John W. Campbell, best known for being the editor of Astounding Science Fiction!) starring Kenneth Tobey, Margaret Sheridan, Robert Cornthwaite, Dewey Martin, Paul Frees, John Dierkes, Eduard Franz, James Arness (in the title role as The Thing From Another World!), William Self, and Billy Curtis (as the miniature "Thing" in the final sequence when the monster appears to shrink). Note that this movie had a very unusual poster campaign, where the letters of the title were made to look like body parts ("blood and guts"!), with wires coming off of the letters. Almost all the posters had this basic design. The pressbook calls all of them "teaser" posters and says "This display material was designed for an advance teaser campaign, as well as for general use". So obviously, they intentionally wanted to have the posters not reveal much about the movie, as a way to get people interested and get them into the theater. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very desirable poster from this classic movie, especially because many of the posters solely have the unusual title treatment, without images of the stars. This poster has a wonderful montage of images that do not appear on the other posters, except for the half-sheets. That causes the inserts and half-sheets to sell for a considerable amount of money, and they are rarely offered for sale or auction (but remarkably, in this Halloween auction, we are auctioning both an insert and a style B half-sheet, in separate auctions!). Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. There is paper loss in the center of the top border that slightly extends into the solid background area (see our image). There a tiny pinhole in three corners and tiny paper loss in three corners, where pins were roughly removed. There are extra creases just above the regular middle fold, with minor creases along the other two folds. There are a few smudges and faint brown stains around the edges of the poster, slightly extending into the image background in a few areas. There are purple marks in the bottom of the "S" of "HAWKS" in the top of the poster. Other than the above, the poster is in nice condition. While I would think most collectors could absolutely enjoy displaying this wonderful insert on their wall as it is, it can of course be restored, if the new owner desires.
