An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 21" x 54" [53 x 137 cm]) (Learn More)

Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Combined Circus, the 1930s circus poster ("The world-renowned Antalek Troupe. Amazing high-perch wizards in the most astounding balancing feats ever witnessed") promoting a show, and featuring great artwork of circus performers. In 1937, the Anelek troupe consisted of Angela Antalek, Joseph Antalek, Koloman Antalek, Maria Antalek, Melanie Antalek, and Valerie Antalek. Note that the modern version of the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. With weakening attendance and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21st, 2017 after 146 years.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had minor wear on the folds and a few small creases in the "M" of "BARNUM". Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
