An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) Viaggio in Italia (released in the U.S. in 1955 as "Strangers"), the 1953 Roberto Rossellini Italian unhappy-married-couple romantic melodrama (about an unhappily married couple who go on a trip to Italy, and they find that it drives them even further apart) starring Ingrid Bergman, George Sanders, Anna Proclemer, Marie Mauban, Paul Muller, Leslie Daniels, and Natalia Ray. Note that this movie was unsuccessful when it was released in 1953, but in the 1960s, French critics proclaimed it a masterpiece! Finally, note that this movie was made during the period (1950-1955) when Bergman was living in exile from the U.S., because of her affair with Rossellini that produced a child, after which she moved to Italy with him and he directed her in several movies. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie! Also note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. Condition: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at the top center crossfold and creases, tears, and tiny paper loss in the vertical foldline beneath that (and this runs through the left of Bergman's face). There was some red writing on the poster which bled through to the front in Sanders' shoulder. There were some creases, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss on parts of other foldlines and in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
