Date Sold 4/20/2014Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 11 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) Privilege, the 1967 Peter Watkins English musical counter-culture rebellion melodrama ("The raw, shocking movie of a pop singer who makes it big!"; "He entertained.. captivated.. then betrayed! He had the power of privilege!"; "From an original story by Johnny Speight"; about a pop singer who becomes so influential that he can control the public, and he himself is controlled by "handlers", and many of the predictions of the movie have come true over the years to varying degrees) starring Paul Jones (part of the rock 'n' roll group Manfred Mann), Jean Shrimpton (the famous English supermodel; she only starred in this and one other movie!), William Job, Mark London, Jeremy Child, and Max Bacon. Note that director Peter Watkins made a few short films in the early 1960s and then in 1964 made "Culloden" for the BBC TV, and it showed the last battle on English soil, where the Scottish soldiers, led by Bonnie Prince Charles were massacred by the British. That movie was highly acclaimed, and the following year, he made he made "The War Game", the classic 1965 English science fiction (sci-fi) post-nuclear war pseudo-documentary (made to look like a real documentary, it shows a typical English city after a nuclear attack, and it strongly argues that English residents were not at all prepared for any kind of major catastrophe at this time). Both of these movies were very controversial and were unavailable for many years. In 1967, Watkins made this movie. In 1971, he made the feature film "Punishment Park", which was an anti-Vietnam War movie (using an allegory), and again, the film was very controversial. Since that time, he has made a far lesser number of movies, but his works remain controversial, including 1987's "Resan", a 14-hour epic about the arms race, global hunter, and other subjects people don't like to think about! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that there are eight different stills and three duplicate stills in this lot (not pictured). Please do not bid on this lot thinking you will receive 11 different stills. SUPER IMPORTANT! THOUGH ONLY EIGHT OF THE STILLS ARE PICTURED, THE HIGH BIDDER ON THIS LOT WILL RECEIVE 11 STILLS FROM THIS MOVIE (but realize that on some of these lots with 9 or more stills there may be a few duplicates, mostly on post-1960 lots)! We realize there is an element of gambling to this, but we made only a small effort to find the best stills in these lots, and, if you have any willingness to gamble at all, you may find that you get some great stills that were not pictured! Please do NOT bid on this lot unless you can accept that you are only seeing eight of the stills. Condition: good to very good. Some stills have uneven discoloration caused by snipe glue on the back and some have staple holes around the edges, and a few are in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
