Date Sold 5/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Ernst Lubitsch's Comedy To Be or Not to Be, the 1942 Ernst Lubitsch World War II (WWII) military romantic love triangle anti-Nazi screwball comedy ("We announce the presentation of Carole Lombard's last picture. An exciting romantic comedy keyed to an ever-mounting tempo of suspense. Jack Benny at his best in a surprisingly different comic role. Here is a Lubitsch picture-brilliant in its acting-spectacular in its scope."; "original story by Ernst Lubitsch and Melchior Lengyel"; produced by Alexander Korda) starring Carole Lombard (in her final movie role; she tragically died in a plane crash after filming), Jack Benny, Robert Stack, Felix Bressart, Lionel Atwill, Stanley Ridges, Charles Halton, and Sig Ruman. As noted above, Lombard tragically passed away after the movie finished filming, but before it was released. United Artists decided to capitalize on this by promoting it as "Carole Lombard's last picture"! Also note that this movie was remade by Mel Brooks in 1983! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we previously auctioned a different style of half-sheet from this movie, but we have never before auctioned this style (normally half-sheets are marked "style A" or "style B", but in this case neither was marked, something that occasionally happened at this time! Note that this poster could conceivably be rolled in a tube, but because it is old and somewhat fragile, we intend to send it in a large flat package, and will only send it rolled if the new owner accepts responsibility if it is damaged from being rolled. Please bear this in mind before placing your bid on this rare poster. Condition: good. The poster has spotty, slight discoloration throughout due to exposure to moisture (more noticeable in areas of blank paper). It has several tears around the edges and some paper loss in three corners and several tears have been repaired with tape from the back (and the lower left blank corner has been replaced with paper from another poster.) There are some smudges in Lombard's chin and there are some scuff marks in portions of the upper and lower left inset images. Certainly after some proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
