An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 16 3/4" [28 x 43 cm]; 36 pages) (Learn More) Klondike Annie, the 1936 Raoul Walsh Alaska/California interracial romance romantic gambling crime murder melodrama ("Nome was never like this... Till Mae hit town!"; "From a play by Mae West and a story by Marion Morgan and George B. Dowell"; a really wild story where Mae West is an entertainer in San Francisco's Chinatown, and she is being blackmailed into having an affair by the owner of the club she works at, who is Asian, and she kills him and goes on the run, and meets a missionary who dies, and West takes her place and pretends to be a missionary and goes to Alaska, and she also is romanced by Victor McLaglen, and there is much more to the story!) starring Mae West (in the title role), Victor McLaglen, Philip Reed, Helen Jerome Eddy, Harry Beresford, Harold Huber, and Tetsu Komai. Note that while this was a movie made a couple years after the Production Code was in place, it broke many of its rules, and it is a mystery how it got made. It also has much anti-Asian racism, and that likely accounts for why the movie is little seen in recent years. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was once in a bound volume, and there are tiny holes down the spine. Someone put black tape on the spine to better hold the pressbook together. Other than the tiny holes and the black tape, the pressbook is in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
