34 Original Vintage Theatrical Dutch 8 1/2" x 11" Movie Stills (Learn More)

Le Golem (released in the U.S. in 1937 as "The Golem", "The Golem: The Legend of Prague"; and "The Man of Stone"), the 1936 Julien Duvivier French/Czechoslovakian horror fantasy melodrama starring Harry Baur, Charles Dorat, Jany Holt, Roger Karl, and Germaine Aussey. Note that Paul Wegener made two movies called "The Golem" in 1915 and 1920, and both were based on the ancient Jewish fairy tale of a Frankenstein-like monster that could be created out of mud or clay to liberate them from oppression. This movie is a sequel to the earlier classic movie, and was intended to be filmed in Germany, but by 1936, the huge anti-Jewish sentiment there caused it to be moved to France, where one of France's best directors, Julien Duvivier, was assigned to direct it. It is a sequel to the earlier movie, and the plot has the Rabbi from the first movie (who controlled the Golem) dead, and a new Rabbi hides the Golem, intending to bring him out when he is most needed (he does not make his appearance until the final 5 minutes of the movie)!
