An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm] Movie Still #7 (Learn More) Cool Hand Luke, the classic 1967 Stuart Rosenberg prison escape crime thriller ("The man... and the motion picture that simply do not conform."; "What we have here is a failure to communicate."; "It looks like Luke is communicating real good- with women... with men... like with just about everybody!"; "'Hell - that Luke is a real world-shaker!'"; about a hard headed inmate) starring Paul Newman ("Paul Newman just bugs the establishment as Cool Hand Luke"; nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role "as Cool Hand Luke", Lucas Jackson), George Kennedy (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Dragline), J.D. Cannon (as Society Red), Jo Van Fleet (as Arletta, Luke's mother), Robert Drivas (as Loudmouth Steve), Lou Antonio (as Koko), Strother Martin (as "Captain", the warden of the prison), Dennis Hopper (as Babalugats), Clifton James (as Carr), Wayne Rogers (as Gambler), Harry Dean Stanton (as Tramp), Morgan Woodward (as Boss Godfrey, "the man with no eyes", who has no dialogue at all, but who plays a very significant role), Joy Harmon (as "Lucille", the sexy girl washing the car), Cyril 'Chips' Robinson (as the black African American boy who helps Paul Newman escape), Jan Watson, and Susanne Benton (Watson and Benton only appear in the photo that Luke sends to the inmates of the prison to cheer them up!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still shows the image that is only seen in the movie on a photograph that Paul Newman sends to the prison inmates, and later he reveals that it was a fake photo, and that he never was with the girls, except for the moment of the photo being shot! Also note that this from is a special set of stills called "Story-in-Pictures". This was something that was done in the early 1960s. A set of 8 stills were created that were numbered, and they were designed to be placed in the lobbies of theaters in number order, and each of the stills had a long paragraph on the bottom that basically told you the entire story of the movie. I guess these sets were intended to serve as a kind of written preview of the movie with pictures, but apparently, they were not very popular, since I have only seen a few of them (perhaps the problem was that no one at the studio wanted to take the time to create them!). In any event, I think they are pretty cool, and they are definitely far more rare than the regular stills from the corresponding movies (these were made in ADDITION to the regular stills, not in place of them). The still measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/4", but it does not appear to be trimmed. Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
