Date Sold 10/29/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Swedish Movie Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 39 3/4") (Learn More) The Last Warning, the 1929 Paul Leni (influential German Expressionist filmmaker, probably best remembered for his German production of "Waxworks", and for his American movies "The Cat and the Canary" and "The Man Who Laughs"; he died of blood poisoning the same year he made his last movie, "The Last Warning", and it seems likely he would have been an influential director of the 1930s at Universal Studios had he lived!) theater stage acting crime murder mystery thriller ("A Laemmle special"; based on the novel 'House of Fear' by Wadsworth Camp, but it seems to owe a great deal to "The Phantom of the Opera"; about a play that opens, and on opening night, a lead actor is killed on the stage, and his murder is not solved; so five years later, the producer gets the same actors to re-create their roles in a new production, thinking it will prove irresistible to the killer to strike again, which he again does on opening night!) starring Laura La Plante, Montagu Love, Roy D'Arcy, Margaret Livingston, John Boles, Burr McIntosh, and Mack Swain NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of those posters that is difficult to accurately photograph. The poster designer was going for an eerie image of a scared Laura La Plante in the shadows, and he accomplished that well. Framed with a dark mat all around, the poster will look incredible on the new owner's wall! Also note original movie paper of any sort from this movie is extremely scarce! We once sold a canvas banner from this movie, but otherwise, we have never sold a single item from its first 1929 release, either from the U.S. or from any other country! Condition: very good to fine. The poster had two vertical folds and two horizontal ones, but they are extremely faint, and they have virtually vanished during the linenbacking process. The poster had some very minor border defects. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great!
