A 1951 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The First Round-up, the 1934 Gus Meins Our Gang juvenile comedy short starring Spanky MacFarland, Matthew 'Stymie' Beard, Scotty Beckett (best remembered for playing the young Al Jolson in "The Jolson Story"), Bubbles Trin, Willie Mae Taylor (as Buckwheat), and Billie 'Buckwheat' Thomas (not as Buckwheat!). Note that Our Gang fans are familiar with Billie Thomas playing Buckwheat, but actually, the character of Buckwheat was first played by Carlena Beard (Stymie's sister), in two early shorts, in 1932 and 1934. Then the character was played by another girl, Willie Mae Taylor, starting in this movie, and continuing for two more. In "Mama's Little Pirate", Billie Thomas took over the role of Buckwheat, having previously appeared in just two Our Gang shorts, this one, where he was billed as "kid emptying canteens" and in the earlier "For Pete's Sake", where he was billed as "kid"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet is a re-release from 1951. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Monogram issued a series of re-releases of Our Gang shorts. In the 1920s and 1930s, the kids had been known as "Our Gang", and were sometimes referred to as Hal Roach's "Rascals", but the name "The Little Rascals" was not applied to them until the late 1940s with these re-releases and with subsequent showings on television under that name. To save money, Monogram made a generic one-sheet that showed a full-color image of Our Gang kids from many different years of the series (with the words "LITTLE RASCALS" above the title, because that is how the series was known in re-release) with the title of a specific short overprinted at the top, and they listed a bunch of kids at lower right, and in many cases, the kids they showed or listed were not the kids in that specific short!
UPDATED 06/22/2015: We initially had an incorrect note in the Important Added Info section. We have updated it accordingly. Condition: very good. The upper vertical foldline has darkened somewhat and there is some tiny paper loss in a few crossfolds. It is otherwise in pretty good condition and if after a simple linenbacking the poster will look great! Learn More about condition grades
