An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Viva Villa!, the 1934 Jack Conway south-of-the-border Mexican-bandit-turned-revolutionary-leader biographical melodrama ("He held a nation in his power"; "...Too Big For Hollywood it was dramatized in the heart of Mexico, with thousands in the cast"; "The year's biggest picture!"; "Romance-thrills-laughs-in the year's big hit!"; produced by David O. Selznick; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; a highly fictionalized biography of Pancho Villa, loosely based on the novel by Edgcumb Pinchon) starring Wallace Beery (in the title role as Pancho Villa), Leo Carrillo, Fay Wray, Joseph Schildkraut, Mischa Auer, Noah Beery Jr., George E. Stone, Stuart Erwin, and Katherine DeMille NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is undated, but it has a litho number, and comparing it to our massive database of litho numbers, we can tell that it is likely from 1949 (but because MGM started over again with litho numbers every 8 or 9 years, it could possibly be from 1940 or 1957, but we think it is very unlikely that this movie would have received a re-release in 1957, and 1940 does not seem consistent with the type of printing, so we think it is almost surely from 1949). If anyone knows more about the date of this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good. The poster had paper loss at the top crossfold, and pinholes in the corners, and paper loss in the top corners (caused by rough removal of the pins). There were creases, smudges, and stains around the edges of the poster, and there was a triangular area of paper loss in the middle of the right border (extending 3" into the background area. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the restorer did only minor touch up to the defects around the edges of the image, and they are noticeable, even from a normal viewing distance.
