An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" [9 x 14 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More)

Lady Be Good, the 1928 Richard Wallace silent romantic vaudeville magic comedy (about an engaged couple who work as magicians in vaudeville, and they have an argument and split up; they both do poorly while they are separated, and the girl gets hired as his assistant without him knowing it, and they are reunited, both personally and professionally) starring Jack Mulhall (as Mysterio the Magician), Dorothy Mackaill, John Mijian, Nita Martan, and Dot Farley. There is an oddity about this movie. Some sources say that it is an earlier version of the 1941 George Gershwin musical, "Lady Be Good", but other sources don't say that. We know the song "Oh Lady Be Good" was written by Gershwin for a 1924 musical, and it might well have originally been intended for this movie, but not used. And this movie is listed on IMDb as a silent film, but there is a "libretto" credited, which would seem to indicate it had songs, and we have seen it referred to as a "musical", so maybe it started out as a musical sound movie and ended up a silent! So we are very confused, and unfortunately, this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist, so we can't view it to find out. If anyone knows more about this (through contemporary reference books), please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this herald!

Note that this is from a wonderful collection of heralds we were consigned. We auctioned the first 30 from this collection (the very best ones) in our April 2024 Major Auction. We will auction more from this collection every four weeks until they are all sold, and this time there are 42 different ones (all are in separate auctions), and they include many that we have either never before auctioned or only auctioned once or twice before.. The collection only included one of each herald, so on the rare ones, it may be quite some time before we offer the same title again!

Condition: very good.
