An Unfolded Late 1930s or Early 1940s Travel Poster (measures 22" x 34 1/4" [56 x 87 cm]) (Learn More)

Rainier National Park: Paradise Valley - State of Washington, the 1927 travel poster ("Winter Season - December to June") encouraging people to visit Rainier Nation Park, and featuring wonderful Edward Hopper art of Mount Rainier with skiers and a ski lodge. Note that Edward Hopper was a major American painter who is born in the 1880s, and did not first achieve much success until he was in his thirties. He did a very large number of paintings, watercolors, and etchings, and he did a few movie poster and other posters. This is the only poster we have ever auctioned with Hopper art that was produced in his lifetime!

Artist: Edward Hopper
Important Added Info: Note that the original Rainier National Park poster was created by Edward Hopper in 1927. It has been reprinted many times since than, and we feel that this poster most likely dates to the late 1930s or early 1940s. It is definitely not the 1927 first release poster. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Also note that this is one of 11 wonderful travel and skiing related posters that were recently discovered in Canada after having sat undisturbed for many decades! We had only auctioned ONE of these posters one time before and the other 10 we had NEVER auctioned! All would benefit from restoration, but most are the kind that do not need a lot of restoration, and after being backed they will display wonderfully (and it is quite possible it will be many years before we again auction even one of these!).

Condition: fair to good. The poster was never folded. It has tears of varying lengths around the edges (some are large at upper right and lower center) and some darkened staining scattered in various areas (see our image). It has pinholes and creases around the edges with some other tiny border defects.
