An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Sophia Loren is an Italian actress and sex symbol from the 1950s to the present. At age 14, Sophia Loren entered a beauty contest where she placed as one of the finalists. It was there that Sophia caught the attention of film producer Carlo Ponti, some 22 years her senior. They married in 1957 when she was 23, but had to divorce five years later when he was threatened with bigamy charges because the church did not recognize his divorce! In 1966 he finally obtained a divorce from his first wife and they were re-married, and remained married until Ponti's passing in 2007, when he was 94! She stood out from all the other sex symbols of her era because she could truly act, and she deservedly won the Best Actress Oscar! But decades before Jacqueline Bisset made headlines in her see-through diving suit, Loren shocked the world (but thrilled all American males!) when she appeared in her see-through shirt in 1957's Boy on a Dolphin! Some of her film roles include: El Cid, La Ciociara, Boy on a Dolphin, Two Women (in which she won the Best Actress Academy Award), and Marriage Italian Style. As of 2021, she is still alive at the age of 86! Important Added Info: Note that this deluxe still is stamped "PLEASE RETOUCH AS INDICATED" on the back, but there is no marking on the front, so it must have been an attached note that "indicated" what needed retouching. Looking at the image, it is obvious that the censor was not happy with how high on her thigh the dress revealed! Also note that this still measures 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Note that not only does our current auction of 999 stills represent the absolute finest selection we have ever had in terms of quality of image and film, but it also represents the finest CONDITION group of stills we have ever had! Half of the stills are graded as being in "very good to fine" condition (which is our highest grade for vintage stills), but we were very strict on this, because otherwise, perhaps two thirds or three quarters of the stills would have received this grade! We downgraded stills to "very good" for pretty minor defects, and many of these might have received our "very good to fine" grade in the past. And the half of the stills that ARE in very good to fine condition would likely be graded "mint" by any other auction!
