An Unfolded German Special Poster (measures 11 1/2" x 16 1/4" [29 x 41 cm]) (Learn More) International Jagdausstellung (literally translates to "International Hunting Exhibition"), the 1937 German poster promoting an exhibition about hunting (featuring Finnish falconers, French par force dog handlers, etc) which was held at the exhibition halls located next to the Funkturm Berlin (Berlin Radio Tower) from November 2nd to the 21st in Berlin, Germany. Nazi politician and military leader Hermann Goring was a speaker at the event. Note that this poster features Ludwig Hohlwein art of golden antlers in front of a man with a hunting falcon. Ludwig Hohlwein was a German artist from the 1890s until his passing in 1949. He is one of the best known German poster artists (though his reputation suffered because of his work with the Nazis)! Initially an architect student who illustrated for newspapers, he went on to design book decorations, booklets, and advertising posters. He joined the Nazi Regime in 1933 after refusing an offer to emigrate to the United States, and created government program posters as well as advertisements for the 1936 Munich Olympics. Poster historian Alain Weill says "Hohlwein was the most prolific and brilliant German posterist of the 20th century. Beginning with his first efforts, Hohlwein found his style with disconcerting facility. It would vary little for the next forty years. The drawing was perfect from the start, nothing seemed alien to him, and in any case, nothing posed a problem for him. His figures are full of touches of color and a play of light and shade that brings them out of their background and gives them substance". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Ludwig Hohlwein Important Added Info: Note that we have never auctioned this poster before! Our consignor received it from a collector who won the poster in 1979 for $75 at the Off The Wall auction by The Exhumation in New Jersey. The 30 page catalog for that auction will be included with the poster! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 11 1/2" x 16 1/4" [29 x 41 cm]. Condition: good. The poster was printed on a fairly heavy paper stock, and it has two metal grommets inserted into the top blank area (see our image). Approximately 1/2" was trimmed from the bottom border. Only blank white paper, and small printer information were affected by the trimming, not the image. There is a 1" tear in the bottom border that was repaired with tape from the back. The poster was partially folded across the top 2" and there are creases in that area and some creases below that area in the left and right solid black area. Learn More about condition grades
