An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Love Happy, the 1949 David Miller musical screwball comedy ("New Musical Girlesque!!!"; "Their Newest! Funniest! Musical!") starring the Marx Brothers (Groucho, Chico, and Harpo), Ilona Massey ("Screendom's most beautiful blonde!"), Vera-Ellen ("Thrills in the torrid 'Sadie Thompson' dance!"), Marion Hutton ("She swings with the strings of your heart!"), Raymond Burr, Melville Cooper, Leon Belasco, Paul Valentine, Eric Blore, Bruce Gordon, Otto Waldis, and Marilyn Monroe (in only her second credited movie role!). What is remarkable is that the people who designed the posters put pictures of three pretty girls on them, but did not manage to make Marilyn Monroe one of them, surely a major blunder. She WAS pictured on one of the lobby cards, but that seems to have been almost by chance! I know this was because she was unknown at the time, but I would think they would have recognized her obvious assets! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Marilyn Monroe is not pictured or billed on any of the first release posters for this movie, and was only pictured on one lobby card (she was completely unknown to filmgoers at this time). In 1953, after she achieved major stardom, the movie was given a re-release, and it was billed as "The picture that discovered Marilyn Monroe", and an image of Marilyn replaced the image of the girl just under Harpo! It is especially amazing that they chose to highlight three sexy women on this poster in boxes, and yet nobody thought that Marilyn Monroe might be worthy of a "box" herself! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was lightly hand folded once in each direction. There are many pinholes, smudges, and light stains around the edges, and some smudges and scuffs scattered in the yellow background areas, and a few scattered in the rest of the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. The poster clearly has many defects, but they are not all that distracting, and the poster will still display well on the new owner's wall. Learn More about condition grades
