An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41 3/4") (Learn More) Busting the Show, the circa early 1920s Dave Fleischer silent chorus girl comedy ("A back stage comedy."; "The Trials & Tribulations of Chorus Girls") starring Peggy Shaw, James Terbell, Flora Finch, and Joseph Burke. Note that this is a fascinating poster! Dave Fleischer is of course the famous brother of Max Fleischer, who together were the OTHER major cartoon geniuses besides Walt Disney. Surprisingly, we could find next-to-no information about this movie on the Internet, but we checked with Leonard Maltin, and he pointed us to Leslie Cabarga's excellent book THE FLEISCHER STORY, which tells that the Fleischer brothers produced a series of live-action shorts like these in their studio in the early 1920s, likely just before they began creating the Koko the Clown cartoons for Red Seal Pictures, the same studio as this movie! We said above that we found "next-to-no information" on the Internet. The sole reference we found is a quote from a book about the treatment of blacks in early movies, called "Slow Fade to Black", and in that, they make reference to this movie having a blackface comedian who performs an incredibly offensive "comedy" routine during the movie, using the worst stereotypes of that time (we assume this was just a small portion of the film, put in for "comic relief"). If anyone knows more about this movie, or if any other poster material survives from the other entries of Dave Fleischer's pre-animation career, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet measures 27" x 41 3/4". Please do not bid on it thinking that it is 27" x 41". Condition: fair to good. This poster has been linenbacked, but it was not very well done, either because the restorer did not do a very good job, or because the years since it has been linenbacked have not been kind to the poster. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. Generally, it had been folded an extra time and there is paper loss at the crossfolds, and some on parts of some foldlines, with many areas of paper loss in the borders, more so in the right border. The poster was not that well backed, because you can see signs of the above general defects and the restoration of the defects (in some cases, as should be immediately evident in our image, the linenbacker did no restoration to some of the defects). I would think few collectors would want to display it as it is, without someone performing some additional restoration. Certainly, a talented restorer could perform additional restoration (either with or without re-backing the poster), but it might be fairly expensive to have this done, so bear that in mind before you place a bid.
