An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) ComiColor Cartoon, the 1930s P.A. Powers Celebrity Productions stock poster created for use by theaters showing Ub Iwerks ComiColor animated animation cartoon comedy shorts. ComiColor Cartoons were a series of 25 animated animation cartoon shorts produced by the Ub Iwerks studio from 1933 to 1936. After being instrumental in the creation of Mickey Mouse for Walt Disney, Ub Iwerks (full name Ubbe Iwerks) was hired away from Disney by P.A. Powers of Celebrity Productions to create a series of cartoons based on classic fairy tales (Iwerks was able to be hired away, both because he did not share in the financial rewards that Disney obtained from his work on Mickey Mouse and other early Disney characters, and also because Iwerks was barely credited for his work). Iwerks not only drew the ComiColor cartoons, but he also drew the one-sheets (and a 4-card full-color lobby card set) created to promote each of them. Unfortunately, this series of cartoons did not perform well at the box office, and late in the series, they switched from individual one-sheets for each cartoon to a stock poster with different titles printed in the middle. After 25 cartoons, Powers folded Celebrity Productions and Iwerks was forced to return to Disney. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Ub Iwerks Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have only auctioned three in all our years of auctioning, and the least one sold for $933, and we have never auctioned one that has the title "The Little Red Hen" before! Condition: fair to good. The poster has separation in the top crossfold and upper horizontal fold edges, and those three areas are backed by a brown plastic tape that bleeds through to the front. There are tears of varying lengths at upper left that are backed by white tape and there are some older tape repairs in portions of the edges of the upper half. There are several inches of separation at the center crossfold and that is backed by several pieces of white tape and there is complete separation of the vertical foldline under that crossfold to the bottom crossfold. There is much separation at the bottom crossfold and that is backed by white tape and brown tape (and there is similar tape at the back of the right edge) that bleed through to the front. There are some other border defects. The tape repairs do not allow the poster to lay completely flat. The art of the poster is mostly "all there" and after restoration by a talented professional the poster could display well, but bear in mind all of these things and there cost of restoration before placing a bid.
