An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Lobby Card (Learn More)

The Lone Wolf, the 1917 Herbert Brenon silent romantic detective mystery crime melodrama starring Hazel Dawn, Bert Lytell, Cornish Beck, Stephen Grattan, and Alfred Hickman. Note that The Lone Wolf was a character in a series of eight novels that author Louis Joseph Vance wrote starting in 1914, and the first movie starring the character was in 1917, with Bert Lytell in the lead role. There were three movies after that with three different actors in the lead role. Then Lytell returned to the character, and there were many movies in a short period, and then Lytell starred in some sound movies as the character. In the 1940s, Warren William starred in a series of Lone Wolf movies, and then the character was played by Gerald Mohr. There were a few single entries mixed in where other actors played the lead role. In all, there were 24 Lone Wolf movies! The character was a master thief turned detective, and there were several other characters who were very similar, but few had the enduring popularity of The Lone Wolf. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a group of seven 8x10 lobby cards and a glass slide from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this 8x10 lobby card!

Note that, in the early days of movie making, when lobby cards were first made (around 1915), studios would issue sets of the cards in two sizes; the regular 11" x 14" size, and a smaller 8" x 10" size. The cards were identical in every way except for the different size. This practice continued through the early 1920s, at which point the studios abandoned the smaller lobby cards, likely because theaters either ordered 11" x 14" lobby cards or 8" x 10" stills, and did not order enough of the 8" x 10" lobby cards to justify them continuing to make them.

Condition: very good to fine.
