An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Hello, Sister!, the 1933 Alan Crosland, Erich von Stroheim, Raoul Walsh & Alfred L. Werker New York City Broadway romantic melodrama starring James Dunn, Zasu Pitts, Minna Gombell, Boots Mallory, and Terrance Ray. Note that this is a fascinating movie! It was based on a play about two young women moving to New York City, and one falls in love, but breaks up with her boyfriend, and then discovers she is pregnant, and she gets an abortion, and at the end of the play, she reunites with her boyfriend. This was certainly daring material for its time. Legendary director, Erich von Stroheim, who had not directed a movie for three years, was assigned to direct this, and he made many, many changes, including the title, but more importantly making the movie far darker, including having the heroine raped! Fox looked at the film and apparently hated it, and they called in a first one and then a second and then a third director to re-shoot scenes, until finally, very little of von Stroheim's original movie remained, and his name was taken off the credits! He would never again be hired to direct a movie, although he of course went on to an illustrious acting career. It would be wonderful to see von Stroheim's original version exactly as he directed it (if it does not exist, someone should try to recreate it). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the movie is called "Walking Down Broadway" on the front of this still (under the snipe), which was the working title for this movie! Note that not only does our current auction of 999 stills represent the absolute finest selection we have ever had in terms of quality of image and film, but it also represents the finest CONDITION group of stills we have ever had! Half of the stills are graded as being in "very good to fine" condition (which is our highest grade for vintage stills), but we were very strict on this, because otherwise, perhaps two thirds or three quarters of the stills would have received this grade! We downgraded stills to "very good" for pretty minor defects, and many of these might have received our "very good to fine" grade in the past. And the half of the stills that ARE in very good to fine condition would likely be graded "mint" by any other auction! This is the finest group of stills I have ever seen, and I can only hope to equal it someday! Condition: very good. The still was printed with the working title, and a snipe with the final title is glued over it. There are pinholes around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
