An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Cherokee Strip, the 1940 Lesley Selander Native American Indian cowboy western starring Richard Dix, Florence Rice, William Henry, Victor Jory, George E. Stone, Andy Clyde, Morris Ankrum, Tom Tyler, Ray Teal, Hal Taliaferro, Jack Rockwell, and Bob Kortman NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had creases, tears, and some tiny areas of paper loss on the foldlines. There were creases, tears, pinholes, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. The person who did the restoration put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area). Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the person who did the restoration chose to put a fair amount of paint on the underside of the brim Dix's hat (to cover tears and paper loss). They did quite a nice job, and it is not at all noticeable. Learn More about condition grades
