He only appeared in a handful of movies, including: Look At Any Window, The Eiger Sanction (as Miles Mellough), and The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover. He was the father of pop idol David Cassidy and after he divorced David's mother, he married Shirley Jones, and they had three children, one of whom was Shaun Cassidy. Sadly, Jack Cassidy fell asleep in his apartment with a lit cigarette, and died in the ensuing fire. He was only 49 years old. Important Added Info: Note that this auction is for a letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Jack Cassidy AND a publicity photo that was also signed by Cassidy! This is a pretty historic letter and photo! Most people know of Jack Cassidy from the 1960s or later, and this is from his very first starring Broadway role in "Wish You Were Here", and the photo is a publicity photo from his agent, Barbara Belle, who also managed Jose Ferrer and some singers, and the stationery that Jack Cassidy sent his letter on was not his own, but Barbara Belle's (although he is on her letterhead). This signed letter is one of a group of signed letters that come from the collection of Fred Owesney. He was a dancer on Broadway in the 1950s, and he made friends with a number of celebrities, and he began corresponding with them and for many years, he would correspond with celebrities, often ones that he had seen perform in person. Our consignor does not have a "certificate of authenticity" for this or the other letters from this collection, but we believe it is extremely likely that the signatures on the letters are authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. Condition: good to very good. There is a tear in the top center of the photo, with tiny paper loss in the background area. The letter has a tiny burn mark at bottom center.
