An Original Vintage Theatrical Jumbo Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

The Littlest Rebel, the 1935 David Butler Civil War Southern Confederate Army juvenile musical melodrama ("From the play by Edward Peble"; about a Southern plantation owner who joins the Confederate Army and occasionally visits his darling daughter; the soldier is sentenced to be executed, but his daughter personally gets a pardon from President Abraham Lincoln) starring Shirley Temple, John Boles, Jack Holt, Karen Morley, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson (one of the first black African American actors to achieve success in mainstream sound movies), Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams, Willie Best, and Frank McGlynn Sr. (as President Abraham Lincoln). Note that this was the movie where Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson performs a "challenge dance" with Shirley Temple!

Artist: Joseph A. Maturo
Important Added Info: Note that after the passing of Will Rogers in 1935, Shirley Temple was 20th Century-Fox's number one star, and they assigned their finest artist, Joseph A. Maturo, to create beautiful stone litho posters for each of Shirley Temple's films, with a different poster for every different size! What is really strange on this particular title is that the one-sheet has an image of Temple that does not look very much like her (if it is Maturo art, it is a very rare "miss" for him). But this jumbo window card has a wonderful likeness of Temple! Also note that this window card was never machine folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was never machine folded, but it was lightly hand folded down the middle and is lightly folded across the middle. There is an uneven 4" tear at the center of the poster and an uneven 5" tear just above the center of Temple's credit (entering the top of the "T"). There are creases in her name and one in her eyelid, and one in her forehead above the eye. There is darkening, tiny tears, and some very tiny paper loss around the edges. In spite of these many defects, the poster displays surprisingly well just as it is. Someone once put tape on the back of three border tears and white tape down the center of the back of the poster, and certainly, any talented restorer could paperback this poster and perform restoration to the above defects, and it would look wonderful (but as I said, it really would display well just as it is!).
